The Brooklands Vimy flew from its home in the Top gear Hanger at Dunsfold into a field next to the museum We had been planning this for months, but it was still a relief to see it down safe. With the flight over I had the job of Transporting the aircraft into the museum, something I had already done with most of the Museums other aircraft over the last 25 years. Unfortunately there is a river in the way and so we had to do the trip by road. I put out a call for help and my good friends Chris Jones, Mike Cowen and Bob Hunt, all offered equipment as well as their knowledge. So on a fine but cold and windy autumn day, Breast (Brooklands Recovery Engineering and Salvage Team) went into action It took some 17 hours but the aircraft was de-fuelled, dismantled, loaded, transported and reassembled, without drama or injury. This was largely due to the efforts of a huge force of Brooklands volunteers and especially Steve Lewes Martin Strick and Paul Swift.
